A Koi Fish

A bright koi fish swims
In crystal clear blue water
He swims with his friends

A haiku

Vietnam

The murky water
Glows a dull unpleasant green
A pink lotus blooms
In the pond in Vietnam where
Ba' saw the Emperor cry.

The Tent

I saw a bright colored tent
I recall it was once for rent
The man inside was a kind gent
And there was a dent
On the table in which he lent
To me.

Rhyming

A stanza, a rhyme
Oh dear, what is the time?
Is it time for a story?
About the revolutionary rebels
Or the loyal Tories?

Four stanzas or more
Equal Shel Silverstein
Who wrote his first poem
When he was less than a teen.

A rhyme must be written
After four o' clock
After the very last
Tick or tock

Does it matter at this point
Whether written at 8:57
Or 10:11?
I've rhymed more than Shel
Or any man
I just rhyme as much as I can.

A Knight

Under the new moon late at night
A guard has been named a knight
A protector and friend of the King and Queen
It just so happens that knight is me.

freeverse

The Crocodile

The crocodile waits under
Murky water full of useless plunder
A fish swims unaware
Of the predator waiting there
Its jaws wide open
For the fish to swim in.

The jaws snap shut
The fish no more
But a set of bones in the reptile's core.

Freeverse

Violet

The iris blooms in violet
Under the suns rays of ultraviolet
An airplane flies and its pilot
Sees the iris so violet

Freeverse

The Storm

A thunderstorm starts as pattering
The thunder sends creatures scattering
A tree falls down clattering
Out of the cold, squirrels and chipmunks start chattering.
And it all is unflattering.

The spring storm comes to an end
Sending signs it will come again
For all the problems it has sent
The rainbow at the end was given to make amends.

Cherry Blossoms

Cherry blossoms bloom
In a gentile pink and white
Buds open to spring

The Lake Bed

The lake bed drys up
The hard, dry mud cracks once more.
Summer heats the land
Drying it to a hard crisp
Autumn rain must come again

A tanka

Dirt

The dirt is quite soft
Ready for a spring planting
Warm days are coming

A haiku

The Drought

The drought has ended
The gentile rain falls softly
Green has come again

A haiku

Sky

The sun brightly shines
The sky is a soft, bright blue
Rain is on its way
The clouds make a sky dark gray
Warm rain is now coming down

A tanka

The water

The water is smooth,
It always shines when it moves.
In storm it goes gray,
At night the water goes black
And under bright sky it's blue.

A tanka

School

At school you learn much
At home you do your homework
A friend comes to play

Time

The light is shining
Time is whining,
Use it wisely and smartly,
Not stupid and tartly.
The water ripples
In groups of three,
From the middle,
To the tree.

Human Race

If you beat the test
Not the rest
The bow will show
Like a crest
So remember,
This is a taste
Of the human race

A free verse

The Raccoon

At night something stirs
A raccoon comes from the dark
He wants a late snack.
